INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT OF CHOICE
Force-free dog training began over two decades ago (and before that in many indigenous cultures) and has steadily gained popularity. Many zoo’s, veterinary practices, groomers, and trainers are now trained in "Fear Free" methods, making them more widely available.
Learning Methods Matters
Classical Conditioning is your dog’s emotional response to a stimulus, creating a learned association. Your dog may currently have either a positive or negative conditioned emotional response (CER) to nail trims.
Counter Conditioning involves changing a negative emotional response to a positive one by gradually creating new associations with the stimulus.
Operant Conditioning focuses on shaping voluntary behaviors through reinforcement, encouraging your dog to willingly participate in nail trims by associating them with positive outcomes.
